It’s not the first time Facebook has interfered with my/our business, but this time it’s personal. On September1, 2022, Portland Gray Panthers started a fundraiser on Facebook. Sad to say, we hastily agreed to terms before realizing that we wouldn’t be receiving any of our donated funds for 60 days. We tried to call FB to explain that we would need the money sooner. HA HA HA HA HA! Did I say we called Facebook? That’s ridiculous — there is no chit chat phone in the meta verse. We did attempt to have a conversation with FB via their exemplary three-business-day messaging response system to explain that we didn’t realize there would be a 60 day hold on our funds. After weeks of trying to get an answer, it seemed like there was nothing to be done. So our funds were to arrive November 1, 2022 as originally specified. Or so we thought.
It is now December 10, 2022. Our funds have yet to be deposited into our bank account. It seems unfathomable to me that one of the richest men in the world would withhold our minuscule fundraising dollars totaling only $575. It may not seem like much, but we need it to pay bills. Please Mark Zuckerberg, give us our money! I’m pretty sure all you have to do is click a key and the money will be sent.
Presented here are a couple of of the letters Portland Gray Panthers has sent to Facebook regarding the Facebook fundraiser.
The matter has been forwarded to the Oregon Department of Justice where it will likely languish and die. Has anyone in this community had a similar experience with Facebook? Does anyone have an idea of how we might get out money? Some of us used our Christmas shopping money to pay bill for the organization as a loan, hoping to be repaid when the funds were deposited into the Panthers’ account. Wouldn’t it be nice if, in this day and age, we were able to just pick up the phone, have a brief conversation and solve the problem?
